Wood bar edge molding, also known as bar rail, wood bar rail, bar mold, or bar trim, is a solid wood product molded from a single piece of wood to create a comfortable armrest with many potential applications. The wooden bar top and wood bar rail moulding work equally well when installed as a home coffee bar or breakfast bar, built-in or free-standing.

Casing Molding
Casing or case is the type of wood molding used to trim a window or door and is also known as trim mold. Specialty Wood Works' portfolio includes many of the more common profiles as well as historical reproductions and custom one-offs. Those customers seeking a custom wood interior without the expense of creating original molder knives would be well served to browse through the extensive selection of casings.
Base Molding
Base board molding as the name implies runs around the wall base and has the distinction of being the least expendable type of architectural millwork. Builders routinely exclude every other variety of wood trim, but you just have to have baseboard trim molding and door casing. Baseboards trim the rough edge of the wall and hide the transition between the wall and floor coverings. Base mouldings also protect the wall and are some times called kick board or mop board. Aesthetically, they provide a grounding element and are the foundation of an interior trim package. Base mold size should relate to overall interior dimensions and especially ceiling height.
Chair Rail Molding
Chair rail moldings are applied horizontally to a wall and often divide two wall treatments such as wallpaper and color or two different colors. The so-called chair rail height depends on wall height. Figure about one third of the wall height; for most applications this will fall between three and five feet. This is a suggested place to start, not a rule, so inch it up or down to where it looks best.
Chairrail offers many design possibilities as a decorative element. It sits flat on the wall with no notch-out. If you are utilizing wainscot and need to trim the top edge, that is a slightly different situation and you need to scroll down to the wainscot cap molding link at the bottom of this page.
Crown Molding
Crown mold dresses the transition between wall and ceiling providing the finishing touch on a classic interior wood trim package. Specialty Wood Works has many styles to choose from both contemporary and historical. Crown moldings can also be stacked in "built-up" assemblies where other moldings such as crown enhancer, base and cove are used in combination with crown to add depth and detail or to achieve effects not possible with a single profile.
Cove Molding
Two different product types fall within the category of cove molding or cove trim. The first is cove crown which functions the same and serves the same purpose as crown molding. This cove can be installed between wall and ceiling the same as crown and is especially useful in built-up profiles where the relatively simple cove contrasts with the more detailed components for a well proportioned larger crown assembly.
The other type of cove tends to measure an inch or less and is often called base cove because it can be used as a base shoe. The smallest of these moldings can help transition between components of built-up molding profiles and are often used as all purpose trim pieces to fill gaps and dress step-ups in woodworking projects of all sorts.
Hand Rail Molding
Specialty Wood Works of Peoria manufactures stair components on a made-to-order basis. Several handrail profiles are available to choose from, or you can custom design one from scratch or reproduce a historical design. Please inquire for other custom staircase components such as box newels and stair treads available in any exotic or domestic wood species.
The safety hand rail product, also known as nursing home rail or safety rail, meets commercial specifications for institutional applications such as hospitals and nursing homes. It is molded from solid two inch thick oak for unsurpassed strength and durability. Oak mounting blocks also available.
Plinth Blocks and Rosettes
Various corner blocks, base blocks, plinths, rosettes and crown corners add classic architectural detail to a millwork design. Besides visual appeal, these blocks collectively make up what could be called a miterless trim system. An entire wood molding package can be installed using only square-cuts provided no run exceeds sixteen feet.
Round Tops and Arch Casing
Round top, circle top, arch top, radius top and eliptical casings are offered in any existing or custom trim or molding profile available from Specialty Wood Works. Radius or circle tops, being a true semi-circle can be produced to specification based on a couple of simple measurements. Compound curves or elipses require a template made from the actual opening to be trimmed. Please contact us for assistance in ordering these items.
Ballet Rail and Excercise Rail
For the home ballet bar or dance studio, Specialty Wood Works' exercise and dance rail easily mounts to the wall with any of the commonly available ballet rail or bar foot rail brackets. We recommend the same brackets used for bar foot rail, although the peg type brackets will also work and only require that a hole be drillled where the bracket will mount to the ballet rail. Coming soon: we will offer appropriate brackets and complete diy kits for home ballet dance rail.
